Tropical Storm “Enteng” Continues North-Northwestward Over Isabela





The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 12 for Tropical Storm “Enteng” (YAGI). The storm continues to move north-northwestward over Isabela.

Track and Intensity Outlook

As of 7:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm “Enteng” was located in the vicinity of Ilagan, Isabela (17.1°N, 122.0°E), based on all available data. It has maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center, with gustiness up to 140 km/h, and is moving north-northwestward at 25 km/h. Strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 200 km from the center.

“Enteng” is forecast to continue moving north-northwestward or northward over Cagayan Valley or northern Cordillera Administrative Region before turning west-northwestward over the Babuyan Channel by tomorrow morning (September 3). From tomorrow afternoon to Thursday, “Enteng” will move generally westward over the West Philippine Sea. On the track forecast, this tropical cyclone may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday (September 4) morning or afternoon.





“Enteng” is expected to maintain its tropical storm category during its traverse of mainland Northern Luzon. Further intensification is expected from tomorrow afternoon onwards, with the storm potentially becoming a severe tropical storm by tomorrow afternoon or evening, and possibly reaching typhoon status by Thursday.

  • September 3, 2024, 8:00 AM: Over the Babuyan Channel
  • September 4, 2024, morning or afternoon: Exiting the PAR, moving over the West Philippine Sea





Hazards Affecting Land Areas

Heavy Rainfall Outlook: Residents in affected areas should prepare for heavy rainfall, with forecast accumulated rainfall as follows:

  • Today to tomorrow afternoon (September 3):
    • 100-200 mm: Ilocos Region, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, and the northern and central portions of Aurora.
    • 50-100 mm: Bataan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Metro Manila, and the rest of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.
  • Tomorrow afternoon to Wednesday afternoon (September 4):
    • 100-200 mm: Ilocos Sur and Abra.
    • 50-100 mm: The rest of Ilocos Region, and Benguet.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in official hazard maps and in localities that have experienced significant rainfall in recent days. The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring moderate to intense rainfall in other areas of Luzon and Visayas, especially along the western portions, over the next three days.




Severe Winds The following areas are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2, with gale-force winds expected within the next 24 hours:

    • Northern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lagayan, Lacub, Malibcong)
    • Eastern portion of Mountain Province (Paracelis, Natonin)
    • Eastern portion of Ifugao (Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo)
    • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
    • Isabela
    • Northern portion of Quirino (Cabarroguis, Maddela, Aglipay, Diffun, Saguday)
    • Northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dilasag, Dinalungan)

The following areas are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, with strong winds expected within the next 36 hours:

  • Luzon:

Coastal Inundation A minimal to moderate risk of storm surge may occur in the next 48 hours in the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and northern Aurora.

Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters

In the next 24 hours, “Enteng” and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring the following conditions over the coastal waters of the country:

  • Gale Warning is in effect over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon. Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas. Mariners are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions.
  • Moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 3.0 m) over the western seaboard of Northern and Central Luzon, the western seaboard of Southern Luzon, the eastern and southern seaboard of Southern Luzon outside Gale Warning areas, and the western seaboard of Visayas (1.5 to 2.5 m). Mariners of small seacrafts are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions.
  • Slight to moderate seas (1.0 to 2.0 m) are expected over the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao. Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
