Tropical Storm “Enteng” Intensifies, Approaching Landfall Over Northern Aurora-Southeastern Isabela

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 10 for Tropical Storm “Enteng” (YAGI). The storm has further intensified and is about to make landfall over the northern Aurora-southeastern Isabela area.
Track and Intensity Outlook
As of 1:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm “Enteng” was estimated over the coastal waters of Casiguran, Aurora (16.3°N, 122.3°E), based on all available data including from Baler Weather Radar. It has maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center, with gustiness up to 105 km/h, and is moving north-northwestward at 20 km/h. Strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 200 km from the center.

“Enteng” is expected to make landfall over the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag-Casiguran) or the southeastern portion of Isabela (Dinapigue) within the next three hours. After crossing mainland Northern Luzon, the storm will emerge over the Luzon Strait by late morning tomorrow (September 3). The storm is forecast to continue moving westward over the Luzon Strait and the West Philippine Sea, possibly exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday (September 4) noon or afternoon.
“Enteng” is forecast to maintain its tropical storm category during its traverse of mainland Northern Luzon. Further intensification is expected from tomorrow late evening onwards, with the storm potentially becoming a severe tropical storm by late tomorrow evening or Wednesday morning, and possibly reaching typhoon status by Thursday.

Hazards Affecting Land Areas
Heavy Rainfall Outlook: Residents in affected areas should prepare for heavy rainfall, with forecast accumulated rainfall as follows:
- Today to tomorrow afternoon (September 3):
- 100-200 mm: Northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Aurora, Isabela, Cagayan, Zambales, and western portion of Pangasinan.
- 50-100 mm: Central portion of mainland Quezon, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, and the rest of Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley.
- Tomorrow afternoon to Wednesday afternoon (September 4):
- 100-200 mm: Ilocos Sur and Abra.
- 50-100 mm: The rest of Ilocos Region, and Benguet.
Flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in official hazard maps and in localities that have experienced significant rainfall in recent days. The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring moderate to intense rainfall in other areas of Luzon and Visayas, especially along the western portions, over the next three days.

Coastal Inundation A minimal to moderate risk of storm surge may occur in the next 48 hours in the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Aurora.

Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters
In the next 24 hours, “Enteng” and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring the following conditions over the coastal waters of the country:
- Gale Warning is in effect over the eastern seaboard of Luzon and the southern seaboard of Southern Luzon. Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas. Mariners are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions.
- Moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 3.0 m) over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon, the western seaboard of Southern Luzon, the southern seaboard of Southern Luzon outside Gale Warning areas, and the seaboards of Western Visayas (1.5 to 2.5 m). Mariners of small seacrafts are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions.
- Slight to moderate seas (1.0 to 2.5 m) are expected over the rest of the country. Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
