LPA Near Batanes May Develop Into Tropical Depression; Monsoon Rains to Continue





The Low Pressure Area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) continues to enhance rainfall over parts of Luzon and the Visayas. According to the latest bulletin from PAGASA, the LPA currently has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

At 3:00 PM today, the LPA was estimated at 200 km north of Itbayat, Batanes (22.6°N, 121.7°E).

Track and Intensity Outlook

The LPA, designated as LPA 06b, remains embedded within the monsoon circulation over Luzon. PAGASA has classified its potential for intensification as high, with possible tropical depression formation expected by June 13, 2025.

The system is moving slowly and is expected to continue influencing weather patterns over Northern and Central Luzon and Western Visayas in the next 24 hours.




Hazards Affecting Land Areas

Heavy Rainfall Outlook:

  • Pangasinan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro – Occasional rains are expected due to the Southwest Monsoon. – Hazards: Possible flash floods and landslides from moderate to heavy rains.
  • Batanes, Cagayan – Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms associated with the LPA. – Hazards: Possible flash floods and landslides.
  • Western Visayas and the rest of Luzon – Cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms due to the enhanced monsoon. – Hazards: Possible flash floods and landslides, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
  • Rest of the country – Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized convection. – Hazards: Possible flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms.





Severe Winds

At this time, no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals have been raised. However, moderate to strong southwest to south winds are expected over the northern and western sections of Luzon.

Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters

  • Northern and Western Luzon:
    Moderate to rough coastal waters (waves 1.5 to 3.1 meters). Mariners are advised to exercise caution.
  • Visayas and the rest of Luzon:
    Slight to moderate seas (0.6 to 2.1 meters).
  • Mindanao:
    Slight to moderate seas (0.6 to 1.2 meters).





The LPA north of Batanes remains under close monitoring by PAGASA as it is expected to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon continues to bring moderate to heavy rains over parts of Luzon and the Western Visayas.

Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert for flash floods and landslides, and to continue monitoring official updates from PAGASA.
