Neneng Moves Slowly Near Eastern Taiwan, May Exit PAR Within 12 Hours

Tropical Depression Neneng continues to move slowly over the coastal waters of eastern Taiwan and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the next 12 hours, according to PAGASA.

In its 11:00 AM bulletin today, August 20, 2026, PAGASA said Neneng remains a tropical depression, while the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is expected to continue bringing strong to gale-force gusts over a large portion of the country.

Neneng’s Location and Strength

As of 10:00 AM, the center of Tropical Depression Neneng was estimated at 450 km north of Itbayat, Batanes.

Neneng has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, with gustiness of up to 55 km/h. Strong winds extend outward up to 420 km from its center.

The tropical depression is currently moving north northeastward slowly.

No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is currently hoisted in the Philippines.

Neneng May Exit PAR Within 12 Hours

PAGASA forecasts Neneng to move generally northward.

Its center may continue moving over the waters off the eastern coast of Taiwan before exiting PAR within the next 12 hours.

Neneng may also weaken into a remnant low within the forecast period.

Despite the tropical cyclone’s location near Taiwan, PAGASA emphasized that severe weather can still affect areas outside Neneng’s forecast track.

Habagat to Bring Strong Winds

The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is forecast to bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of Luzon and Visayas, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga del Norte from today until Saturday, August 22.

These conditions may be more pronounced in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds.

Rough Seas Over Northern and Western Luzon

Rough sea conditions are also forecast over several coastal waters.

Waves may reach up to 4 meters along the western seaboards of Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

Waves of up to 3.5 meters are expected over the seaboards of Ilocos Norte and the remaining seaboards of Batanes, while waves of up to 3 meters may affect the seaboards of Ilocos Sur and Zambales, the western seaboard of Pangasinan, and the northwestern seaboard of the Kalayaan Islands.

Moderate seas of up to 2.5 meters are also expected along the seaboards of La Union and Lubang Islands and portions of Pangasinan, Batangas and Bataan.

PAGASA advised mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels to take precautionary measures and, if possible, avoid navigating under rough sea conditions.

The next Tropical Cyclone Bulletin for Neneng is scheduled to be issued at 5:00 PM today.
