Typhoon Leon continue to intensify as it approach northern Luzon





As of 5:00 AM, October 30, 2024, Typhoon Leon has further intensified as it moves west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea, approaching northern Luzon.

  • Movement: West northwestward at 15 km/h

  • Heavy Rainfall: Refer to Weather Advisory No. 8 for details on anticipated heavy rainfall.
  • Severe Winds: Moderate to significant impacts are expected within areas under TCWS No. 3.
  • Coastal Inundation: Life-threatening storm surge reaching 2.0 to 3.0 meters above normal tide levels is possible in low-lying coastal areas of Batanes and Cagayan including Babuyan Islands.

Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters

  • Very Rough to High Seas:
    • Up to 12.0 m in the seaboards of Batanes
    • Up to 10.0 m in Babuyan Islands and northeastern Cagayan
    • Up to 8.0 m in the remaining eastern seaboard of Cagayan
    • Mariners are advised to remain in port and avoid sea travel until conditions improve.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Leon is forecast to move northwestward, nearing Batanes tomorrow morning, October 31, and may reach super typhoon intensity as it approaches. Landfall in Taiwan is expected tomorrow afternoon, after which it will move northward toward the East China Sea, potentially exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by early November 1.
