Severe Tropical Storm Marce has intensified and nearing Typhoon status

Severe Tropical Storm Marce has intensified and is approaching the threshold of a typhoon as it moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea. Communities in the forecasted path should prepare for potential impacts, with current advisories in effect as follows:

Location and Intensity

  • Position: The center of Severe Tropical Storm Marce is 735 km east of Baler, Aurora (Coordinates: 15.7°N, 128.5°E).

    • Luzon

      • Batanes
      • Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands)
      • Isabela (Northern and Eastern portions, specifically):

Residents in these areas may experience minimal to minor impacts, particularly in coastal and highland regions exposed to strong winds.

Coastal Waters and Sea Conditions

Mariners are strongly advised to heed Gale Warnings and exercise caution, as sea conditions are dangerous for travel, especially for smaller vessels.

  • Northern and Eastern Seaboards: Very rough seas up to 4.5 meters around Batanes, Cagayan, Babuyan Islands, and Isabela, making sea travel extremely risky.
  • Other Seaboards: Rough seas are expected in Ilocos Norte, Aurora, Camarines Norte, and nearby areas, with wave heights reaching up to 4.0 meters.

Mariners of small vessels are advised against setting sail, particularly if untrained or operating less-equipped boats. Vessels in moderate sea regions, such as Aurora and Bicol, should take extra precautions if travel is essential.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Marce is expected to continue moving west-northwest until Wednesday morning (November 6), decelerating and eventually shifting westward towards Extreme Northern Luzon. A potential landfall over Babuyan Islands or northern Cagayan is expected Thursday evening (November 7) or early Friday (November 8). Due to the influence of a high-pressure area, this track may adjust, possibly impacting the Cagayan-Isabela region.

Advisory for Residents and Local Officials

Residents in areas with high susceptibility to wind, rainfall, and coastal hazards should prepare, stay informed, and follow any local evacuation orders. Disaster preparedness offices are encouraged to monitor the situation closely and ensure public safety.
