Masks Off: Gibraltar Eases into Normalcy as Majority of Population Gets Vaccinated





The HM Government of Gibraltar has announced on Wednesday, that some COVID-19 restrictions will be further relaxed due to the very low rates of new confirmed cases in Gibraltar.

In a press release by the HM Government of Gibraltar released March 24, 2021, they have reported zero new infections which demonstrate the effectiveness of the British territory’s lockdown and vaccination program.

Among the restrictions which will be eased is the requirement of masks. Although masks will continue to be mandatory in enclosed public places, shops, and on public transport, they are no longer required outdoors.



Authorities have also lifted the nighttime curfew starting Thursday night, allowing bars and restaurants to remain open until 2 AM.

The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo, said: ‘We are at last leaving behind us our deadliest winter and entering our most hopeful spring.” He also reminded residents that they must all move forward carefully to safeguard the incredible progress in the coming weeks and months ahead.

Gibraltar is now in the final stages of vaccinating its resident population, with over 41,000 doses given by the Gibraltar Health Authority. Now delivering the final second doses, St Bernard’s Hospital vaccination centre in Gibraltar will be closing on March 30, 2021 to allow the clinical space and staff to revert to their normal roles.
