Baguio City Health Office Monitors Pathogen Circulation Amid COVID-19 Uptick

The City Health Services Office (CHSO) of Baguio City, led by City Health Officer Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes, has issued a public assurance regarding the current state of infections by circulating pathogens, including COVID-19. Despite an observed increase in COVID-19 cases, the situation is reportedly under control.

As of the latest data, Baguio City has recorded a total of 1,480 influenza-like illness (ILI) cases this year, with 312 requiring hospital admission. Notably, there have been no recorded deaths, indicating effective management of the cases.

Laboratory surveillance for 2026 has identified various pathogens circulating throughout the year. January was particularly active, with detections of Influenza A (H3), two lineages of Influenza B, SARS-CoV-2, and RSV. By May and June, SARS-CoV-2 was the only pathogen detected, with 41 confirmed COVID-19 cases recorded from January 1 to July 9, 2026.

Dr. Brillantes emphasized the importance of protecting healthcare workers and maintaining health services. Measures implemented include mandatory masking in health facilities, isolation protocols for healthcare workers, and enhanced surveillance and reporting. Health facilities are also urged to reinforce infection prevention practices.

The public is advised to wear masks in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces, practice good hand hygiene, and seek medical consultation if experiencing moderate to severe symptoms. The CHSO continues to monitor the situation closely in coordination with the Department of Health and local hospitals.

For further inquiries, the public may contact the City Health Services Office through their official Facebook page.
