Update on Tropical Depression “Nika”



PAGASA Update as of 11:00 PM of October 11, 2020

The Low Pressure Area observed in the west of Ilocos Sur has already developed into a Tropical Depression called “Nika” at 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

This update is based on the Tropical Cyclone Alert issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 11:00 PM on October 11.

As of 10:00 PM of October 11, the center of Tropical Depression “Nika” was estimated at 200 km West Southwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, moving Westward at 15 km/h with a maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h.

PAGASA Update as of 11:00 AM of October 12, 2020

On the latest update issued by PAGASA at 11:00 AM today (Monday), October 12, 2020, they stated that the Tropical Depression “Nika” has maintained its strength and is likely to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility today. This update is valid until their next advisory at 11:00 PM.

As of 10:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Depression “Nika” was estimated at 340 km West of Sinait, Ilocos Sur. “Nika” is moving Westward at 15 km/h with a maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h.

Although there is no tropical cyclone wind signal in effect, moderate to heavy rains are expected to be brought by the combined effects of “Nika” and the Southwest Monsoon over the following areas in the country:

  • Pangasinan
  • Zambales
  • Bataan
  • Northern Palawan (including Calamian and Kalayaan Islands)
  • Lubang Island

The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Central Luzon, on the other hand, are to experience light to moderate with at times heavy rains.
