Tropical Depression Dodong Continues its Northwestward Trek Over Northwestern Cagayan

Tropical Depression “Dodong” sustains its strength while on its northwestern trajectory over the area of Northwestern Cagayan. This is according to the tropical cyclone bulletin issued by PAGASA as of 2:00 PM.

Location of Eye/center

Based on all available data, the center of Tropical Depression Dodong is estimated to be in the vicinity of Sanchez Mira, Cagayan (18.6 °N, 121.3 °E).

Movement and Strength

Dodong is currently moving northwestward at 15 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness reaching up to 75 km/h.

Land Hazards and Heavy Rainfall Forecast

Accumulated rainfall of 50-100 mm is expected this afternoon until tomorrow afternoon in the following areas:

  • Cagayan
  • Apayao
  • Kalinga
  • Abra
  • Benguet
  • Ilocos Norte
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan

Under these conditions, areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to hazards as per local hazard maps, as well as locations that have been experiencing heavy rainfall in the past few days, are at risk of flooding and rain-induced landslides.

Severe Winds Outlook

Areas where Wind Signal No.1 is in effect could experience minimal to minor impacts from strong winds, ranging from a strong breeze to near-gale strength. Furthermore, the enhanced Southwest Monsoon may bring gusty conditions to areas that are not under any wind signal, especially in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to the wind.

Dodong’s Track and Intensity Outlook

Dodong is forecast to move westward or west-northwestward across Northern Luzon’s mainland, possibly emerging over the waters west of the Ilocos Provinces by later this afternoon or evening. Following this, Dodong is expected to move northwestward over the West Philippine Sea until it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow evening or on Sunday. Upon leaving the PAR, Dodong will continue moving west-northwestward over the waters south of southern China.

Dodong will likely remain a tropical depression during the rest of its traverse of mainland Northern Luzon but may escalate to tropical storm category by tomorrow afternoon or evening while over the West Philippine Sea.

Areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal no. 1

The following areas in Luzon are currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1:

  • Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands
  • Apayao
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Abra
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Mountain Province
  • Kalinga
  • Northern portion of Isabela, which includes Mallig, Quezon, Santa Maria, Cabagan, Delfin Albano, Tumauini, Santo Tomas, San Pablo, Maconacon.

Residents in these areas are advised to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and prepare for possible heavy rainfall and strong winds.
