Severe Tropical Storm Opong continues to move closer towards Eastern Visayas.
Current Status
As of 8:00 PM, the center of Severe Tropical StormOpong was located 150 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar (11.6°N, 126.8°E), based on all available data including Guiuan Doppler Weather Radar. It has maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center, gusts of up to 135 km/h, and a central pressure of 980 hPa. It is moving west northwestward at 20 km/h.

Heavy Rainfall
Heavy rainfall is expected as Opong and the Southwest Monsoon continue to affect the country. Flooding and landslides are possible in high-risk areas.
Severe Winds
- Signal No. 3: Moderate to significant impacts possible
- Signal No. 2: Minor to moderate impacts possible
- Signal No. 1: Minimal to minor impacts possible
The highest signal that may be raised during the passage of Opong is Signal No. 4.
The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Opong will bring strong to gale-force gusts over many areas of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Coastal Waters
Very rough to high seas are expected:
- Up to 11.0 m: Catanduanes; eastern seaboards of Albay and Sorsogon; northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Samar and Eastern Samar
- Up to 6.0 m: Northern and eastern seaboards of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur
- Up to 5.0 m: Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and remaining Bicol seaboards
- Up to 4.5 m: Aurora, Batangas, Mindoro, Samar, Biliran, Leyte
Sea travel is risky for all types of vessels. Small seacrafts must remain in port.
Coastal Inundation
Storm surge heights exceeding 3.0 m are possible within 36 hours over low-lying or exposed coastal areas of Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Cebu, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao Island.

Track and Intensity Outlook
- Opong is forecast to make landfall over Northern Samar or northern Eastern Samar early morning of September 26, then over Sorsogon later in the morning. It will then cross Bicol Region, southern CALABARZON, and northern MIMAROPA before emerging over the West Philippine Sea early on September 27.
- Opong may reach typhoon category before landfall, weaken slightly while crossing the archipelago, and then re-intensify once over the West Philippine Sea.
Advisory
The public and disaster risk reduction offices are advised to take precautionary measures and monitor official bulletins. Residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas should prepare for possible evacuation.
