Heavy Rains to Continue Affecting Luzon Due to LPA and Southwest Monsoon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued updated advisories warning of persistent heavy rains affecting many areas in Northern and Central Luzon. The combined effects of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon continue to bring unsettled weather across the region.

Ongoing Rainfall Activity

As of 11:00 AM today, heavy rains are affecting the Babuyan Group of Islands, with light to moderate to at times heavy rains reported in many parts of Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Batanes, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, and Pangasinan. These rains may persist over the next 2 to 3 hours.

Light to moderate rains are also expected over the rest of Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Abra, Benguet, Aurora, and Pangasinan.

Heavy Rainfall Outlook

Rainfall amounts of 50–200 mm are forecast in various provinces between today and Sunday. Forecast totals may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, and impacts could worsen due to previous heavy rainfall.

Potential Impacts

PAGASA warns of widespread severe flooding, numerous flooding events near rivers and low-lying areas, and localized landslides in highly susceptible locations. Residents along mountain slopes should watch for landslides, mudslides, rockslides, and flash floods.
