Benguet and Other Areas Under Signal No. 1 as Tropical Depression Isang Makes Landfall in Aurora

Tropical Depression Isang developed from the low pressure area east of Aurora and made landfall in Casiguran at 10:00 AM today, August 22, 2025. Signal No. 1 is now raised in several provinces of Northern and Central Luzon, including Benguet.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the Low Pressure Area (LPA 08e) east of Aurora has developed into Tropical Depression Isang. At 10:00 AM, the center of Isang was located in the vicinity of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 90 km/h, and a central pressure of 1002 hPa. It is currently moving westward at 15 km/h.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Tropical Depression Isang is forecast to traverse Northern Luzon within the next 12 hours, then emerge over the West Philippine Sea tonight. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tomorrow morning or afternoon (23 August).

  • Isang is projected to intensify into a tropical storm by Saturday morning and may reach severe tropical storm category while moving toward the waters south of Hainan, China.
  • Earlier intensification into a tropical storm after emerging over the West Philippine Sea is possible.

Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters

  • Rough seas up to 3.0 m: seaboards of Batanes and Cagayan. Mariners of small seacraft are advised not to venture out to sea.
  • Moderate seas up to 2.5 m: seaboards of Isabela, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
  • Moderate seas up to 2.0 m: seaboard of Aurora and Zambales; western seaboards of Bataan and Lubang Island.

Public Advisory

PAGASA urges the public and disaster risk reduction offices to take precautionary measures against floods, landslides, mudslides, and strong winds. Residents in high-risk areas are advised to follow evacuation orders and other instructions from local officials.
