PAGASA Administrator Malano Encourages Inventors to Develop Simple Weather App
Vicente Malano, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Administrator, encourages inventors and startup firms to develop simple weather applications. This has been reported Philippine News Agency (PNA), a newswire service of the Philippine government under the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), today (Wednesday), March 3, 2021.
“We encourage them to develop simple apps, but it is important to involve PAGASA so the information to be shared will be clear and properly understood.”

Malano also said that PAGASA could provide technical assistance to the inventors. The PAGASA Administrator further revealed that funding may also be asked from other attached agencies of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Meanwhile, it has also been bared that weather bureau has an existing weather app called the “Payong PAGASA” which can be downloaded via Google Play.
The PNA has enumerated what have been accessible in the app and these are the following:
- Daily monitoring of rainfall and temperature
- Weather forecast
- Rainfall and temperature for a specific municipality
- Accumulated data for the past three days
According to Malano, the “Payong PAGASA” app is currently being upgraded. It was said that a more detailed weather forecast, tropical cyclones and flood warnings will be included in the upgraded version of the app.
