Demon Slayer the Movie sets box-office record in U.S. weekend opening




The story of the adventures of Kamado Tanjiro and Nezuko did not only capture the hearts of Asian fans but also the U.S. fans. After it’s massive success in Asian cinemas, Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train, is on track to be one of the most successful anime movie in the United States.




The movie topped the box-office on opening day and ending up second after the opening weekend with a box-office total of $19.5M according to Comscore. The number one spot was taken by Warner Brothers’ Mortal Combat with a total of $22.515M in the box-office on the same weekend.

Worldwide Success




Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train was initially released in Japan last October 16, 2020 and in February 2021, the movie was released in the Philippines. The movie is already a global success even before it opened last weekend in the United States. Globally, Demon Slayer the Movie earned a worldwide gross of $415M, not including its gross from the United States. This makes Demon Slayer the Movie the top grossing anime films easing out Hayao Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away” from the number one spot.

Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 Release Date




According to the latest announcement, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 is in the works. Haruo Sotozaki will be directing season 2 at Ufotable while Akira Matsushima will be in-charge of designing the characters. While the official release date is yet to be announced. Many are expecting that season 2 will be released during the later part of 2021.
