Benguet Now Under Signal No. 1 as Kiyapo Maintains Strength East of Cagayan

UPDATE July 29, 2026 5:01 PM:

Tropical Depression Kiyapo maintained its strength while moving west northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Cagayan, PAGASA said late Thursday night, July 23, 2026. Benguet is now among the areas placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

According to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 6 issued at 11:00 PM, the center of Kiyapo was estimated at 535 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan or 550 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan as of 10:00 PM.

Kiyapo had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 70 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 1000 hectopascals.

It was moving west northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour.

Signal No. 1 Areas

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is now raised over:

– Batanes

– Cagayan including Babuyan Islands

– Isabela

– Nueva Vizcaya

– Quirino

– Apayao

– Abra

– Kalinga

– Mountain Province

– Ifugao

– Benguet

– Ilocos Norte

– Ilocos Sur

– La Union

– Northern and central portions of Aurora

Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour, with minimal to minor impacts possible.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items such as signboards, tarpaulins, plant pots, and light materials, especially in exposed and upland areas.

Possible Higher Wind Signals

PAGASA said the highest wind signal that may be raised during Kiyapo’s passage is Signal No. 2.

However, Signal No. 3 is not ruled out if Kiyapo intensifies into a severe tropical storm while crossing the Batanes-Babuyan Islands area.

Habagat and Rainfall Outlook

PAGASA advised the public to refer to Weather Advisory No. 11 issued at 11:00 PM for the heavy rainfall outlook due to Tropical Depression Kiyapo and the Southwest Monsoon.

The Southwest Monsoon and the outer circulation of Kiyapo may also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas:

– Bohol

– Southern Leyte

Friday, July 24

– Most of the country

Saturday, July 25

– Most of Luzon and Visayas

– Zamboanga del Norte

– Davao Oriental

– Dinagat Islands

Residents in Benguet, Baguio City, and nearby mountain areas are advised to monitor local rainfall advisories, especially in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, rockslides, and flash floods.

Sea Conditions

A Gale Warning is in effect over the seaboards of Extreme Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said very rough seas may affect the seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, where waves may reach up to 5.5 meters.

Waves may also reach up to 4.5 meters over the northeastern seaboard of mainland Cagayan and the northern seaboard of Ilocos Norte.

Sea travel is risky for all types of vessels in these areas. Mariners are advised to remain in port or seek shelter until winds and waves subside.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Kiyapo is forecast to continue moving west northwestward toward the Luzon Strait until Saturday, July 25, before turning northwestward to northward.

PAGASA said Kiyapo may pass close to the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan between Friday morning and afternoon, then pass very close to or make landfall near the Babuyan Islands between Friday afternoon and evening.

It is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning.

Kiyapo may reach tropical storm category later tonight or early Friday morning and may intensify into a severe tropical storm after passing the Babuyan Islands.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 2:00 AM tomorrow.
