Baguio Mourns the Passing of Dr. John Anthony Domantay, Dean of Saint Louis University College of Medicine

UPDATE May 27, 2026 10:53 AM:

Baguio City and the Saint Louis University community are mourning the passing of Dr. John Anthony Domantay, Dean of the College of Medicine of Saint Louis University, who passed away on May 19, 2026.

For many students, colleagues, and members of the medical community, Dr. Domantay was more than an educator or administrator. He was a mentor, a guiding presence, and a person who made people feel seen and welcomed.

Those who knew him often spoke about his kindness and willingness to help others without expecting anything in return. In a profession built on service and sacrifice, Dr. Domantay embodied compassion not only as a doctor and educator, but also as a friend to many.

As Dean of the Saint Louis University College of Medicine, Dr. Domantay helped guide and shape future generations of physicians in Baguio City and beyond. Beyond his role in medical education, he also contributed to several university-wide initiatives focused on quality management, research ethics, and institutional development.

University records show that Dr. Domantay served as a Team Leader for Support Management and Processes during Saint Louis University’s Internal Quality Audit initiatives, helping strengthen systems and standards within the institution. He was also involved in research ethics education and public health emergency guideline discussions through the SLU Research Ethics Committee.

Dr. Domantay likewise supported student leadership and development initiatives within the university, participating in programs such as the Gawad San Luis activities that recognized outstanding students, organizations, and advisers.

For many, however, his legacy cannot simply be measured through titles or accomplishments. It lives in the countless students he encouraged, the lives he helped shape, and the quiet reassurance he gave during difficult moments.

Within the halls of Saint Louis University College of Medicine, his absence will be deeply felt. Yet the values he carried, compassion, humility, service, and kindness, will continue through the many doctors, students, healthcare workers, colleagues, and friends whose lives he touched.

At a time when words often fall short, many who knew him take comfort in remembering a life spent serving others.

The Baguio City Guide family extends its deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, colleagues, students, and friends of Dr. John Anthony Domantay.

And while hearts grieve today, may there be comfort in knowing that a life lived in service, kindness, and compassion leaves behind a legacy that does not fade. May God welcome Dr. John Anthony Domantay into His eternal peace, and may those mourning his passing find strength, comfort, and hope in faith during this difficult time.

May he rest in peace.
