Baguio Remains Under Signal No. 1 as Parts of Benguet Are Placed Under Signal No. 2

Baguio City remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, while several areas in Benguet are under Signal No. 2 as Tropical Storm Maymay moves over the sea west of La Union, PAGASA said late Wednesday morning, August 5, 2026.

Tropical Storm Maymay is moving slowly northward to almost stationary over the sea west of La Union, according to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 5 issued at 11:00 AM.

As of 10:00 AM, the center of Maymay was estimated at 185 kilometers west northwest of Bacnotan, La Union.

The tropical storm has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 80 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 998 hectopascals.

It is moving northward at 10 kilometers per hour.

Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour. PAGASA said these winds may bring minimal to minor impacts to life and property.

Habagat and Wind Conditions

PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon and the outer circulation of Maymay may bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of Luzon and Visayas today.

By Thursday and Friday, August 6 and 7, these conditions may affect most of the country.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects such as tarpaulins, signboards, plant pots, and other light materials.

Sea Conditions

A Gale Warning is in effect over the western seaboard of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said very rough seas may affect the seaboards of Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan, where waves may reach up to 5 meters.

Sea travel is risky for all types of vessels in these areas. Mariners are advised to remain in port or seek shelter until winds and waves subside.

Rough seas may also affect the seaboard of northern Zambales, while moderate seas may affect several other coastal waters.

Track Outlook

PAGASA said Maymay is forecast to move generally eastward and may make landfall over Ilocos Sur or La Union this afternoon or evening.

After landfall, Maymay is expected to cross Northern and Central Luzon until Thursday, August 6.

The tropical storm is forecast to remain a tropical storm as it approaches land. It may weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday morning and may be downgraded further into a low pressure area by Thursday afternoon or evening.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 2:00 PM today.
