Typhoon Uwan Rapidly Intensifies as It Moves Closer to Catanduanes; Benguet under signal no. 3





BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — November 9, 2025 (5:00 AM):
Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) continues to rapidly intensify as it moves closer to Catanduanes and the rest of the Bicol Region. Parts of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals No. 2 and 3, with strong to typhoon-force winds expected in the coming hours.

Current Status

  • Location of eye/center (as of 5:00 AM): 195 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (13.8°N, 126.0°E)
  • Movement: West northwestward at 35 km/h
  • Maximum sustained winds: 175 km/h near the center
  • Gustiness: Up to 215 km/h

Uwan is expected to reach super typhoon category within the day and may make landfall at or near its peak intensity. The center of the eye may pass very close to Catanduanes this morning before making landfall over Aurora tonight or early Monday.

After landfall, Uwan will cross the mountainous terrain of Northern Luzon and is forecast to emerge over Lingayen Gulf or the coastal waters of Pangasinan or La Union on Monday morning.

Heavy to intense rains may still occur far from the landfall point and even outside the forecast cone, especially over:

Advisory

  • Secure loose objects, reinforce roofing, and prepare go-bags with essentials, especially in areas under Signals 3 and 4.
