Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) Intensifies as It Moves Closer to Eastern Visayas

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — November 8, 2025 (5:00 AM):
Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) has further intensified while moving west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Eastern Visayas, according to PAGASA’s latest bulletin. The typhoon continues to gain strength as it approaches the country, prompting the issuance of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) No. 1 and 2 over several areas in Luzon and Visayas.

Current Status

  • Location (as of 4:00 AM): 985 km east of Eastern Visayas (12.4°N, 133.7°E)

  • Maximum sustained winds: 130 km/h near the center

  • Gustiness: Up to 160 km/h

  • Central pressure: 965 hPa

  • Movement: West northwestward at 25 km/h

  • Extent of winds: Strong to typhoon-force winds extending up to 780 km from the center

Track and Intensity Outlook

Typhoon Uwan is expected to move west-northwestward until Monday (November 10) before curving north-northwestward by Tuesday (November 11).

  • Possible Landfall: Southern Isabela or northern Aurora between late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

  • After Landfall: The system will cross Northern Luzon and exit into the West Philippine Sea by Monday.

  • Intensity Forecast: Uwan may reach super typhoon strength tonight or early tomorrow before landfall. It will gradually weaken while traversing Luzon but remain a typhoon.

Hazards Affecting Land Areas

Heavy Rainfall

Refer to Weather Advisory No. 5 for rainfall details. Localized intense rainfall is expected in Visayas and Luzon starting today.

Severe Winds

  • Signal No. 2: Minor to moderate impacts possible.

  • Signal No. 1: Minimal to minor impacts possible.

  • Maximum Expected Signal: TCWS No. 5 during Uwan’s peak.

Occasional gusty conditions may also affect Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao (Nov. 8–9) and Luzon and Visayas (Nov. 10) even outside signal areas.

Storm Surge and Coastal Flooding

There is a high risk of life-threatening storm surge exceeding 3.0 meters within 48 hours along coastal areas of Isabela, Aurora, Quezon (including Polillo Islands), Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.
Residents in these areas should monitor Storm Surge Warning No. 2 and coordinate with local authorities.

Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters

A Gale Warning is in effect over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Visayas.

  • Wave heights: May reach up to 14 meters in the most affected areas such as Catanduanes and the eastern coast of Camarines Sur.

  • Sea travel: Risky for all types of vessels. Mariners are strongly advised to stay in port or seek shelter until conditions improve.

Residents, travelers, and local authorities are urged to:

  • Monitor official bulletins from PAGASA and local disaster offices.

  • Prepare for possible evacuations in flood-prone and coastal communities.

  • Avoid sea travel across eastern seaboards and areas under wind signals.
