The following animals will not be vaccinated during the activity:

  • Dogs and cats younger than three months
  • Pregnant dogs and cats
  • Sick dogs and cats

Pet owners are advised to ensure their animals are healthy before bringing them to the designated vaccination sites.

Dog Registration Is Required

The city government also reminded dog owners of the registration requirement under City Ordinance No. 19-2021.

Under the ordinance, all dogs aged three months and older must be registered with their respective barangay or the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office.

A ₱50 registration fee per dog will be collected from dog owners.

While the anti-rabies vaccination is free, pet owners should prepare for the applicable registration fee.

Why Rabies Vaccination Matters

Rabies is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system and can be transmitted to humans through the saliva of infected animals, most commonly through bites.

Once clinical symptoms develop, rabies is almost always fatal. However, the disease is preventable through animal vaccination and prompt medical treatment following a possible exposure.

Regular vaccination of dogs and cats helps reduce the risk of rabies transmission and protects both pets and members of the community.

Residents who are bitten or scratched by an animal suspected of having rabies should immediately wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention at an Animal Bite Treatment Center or other appropriate health facility.

The CVAO encourages pet owners in the identified barangays to take advantage of the free vaccination schedule as part of the city’s continuing rabies prevention efforts.
