Tropical Depression “Verbena” Now Approaching Cuyo Islands

Tropical Depression Verbena continues to move westward and is now approaching the Cuyo Islands, bringing rains, strong winds, and hazardous sea conditions to parts of Luzon and the Visayas.

At 1:00 PM, the center of Verbena was estimated over the coastal waters of Magsaysay, Palawan (10.8°N, 121.2°E) based on all available data.

  • Maximum sustained winds: 55 km/h near the center
  • Gustiness: up to 70 km/h
  • Central pressure: 998 hPa
  • Movement: Westward at 35 km/h
  • Extent of winds: Strong winds extend outward up to 250 km from the center

Track and Intensity Outlook

  • Verbena will continue moving west-northwestward over the Sulu Sea.
  • It will pass near or over the Cuyo Islands this afternoon and may make landfall over northern Palawan tonight.
  • Verbena will emerge over the West Philippine Sea by early Wednesday (26 Nov).
  • The system may intensify into a tropical storm within 12 hours, with further strengthening possible over open waters.
  • Verbena is forecast to exit PAR early Thursday, turn west-southwest, and reach peak intensity by late Thursday or early Friday.

Public Advisory

  • Expect rains and gusty conditions across Western Visayas and MIMAROPA.
  • Flood-prone and landslide-prone areas should prepare for possible evacuations.
  • Mariners should avoid sea travel until conditions improve.
  • Continue monitoring official PAGASA and local government bulletins.
