TD Gener slightly accelerates towards Northern Luzon mainland
As of 8:00 PM today, PAGASA has issued this advisory indicating that Tropical Depression “Gener” has slightly accelerated as it continues moving towards the Northern Luzon mainland. Enhanced by the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Storm Pulasan, it brings strong winds and heavy rainfall to the affected areas.
Track and Intensity Outlook:
- Location of Center (7:00 PM): 240 km East of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (17.5°N, 124.0°E).
- Intensity: Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 996 hPa.
- Movement: West northwestward at 15 km/h.
- Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds: Strong winds extend outwards up to 360 km from the center.

GENER is forecast to make landfall in the vicinity of Isabela or Aurora tonight or tomorrow morning. It may emerge over the coastal waters of La Union or Pangasinan by late morning or afternoon tomorrow (17 September). The tropical cyclone will continue moving generally westward over the West Philippine Sea until Wednesday (18 September), before turning northwestward on Thursday (19 September) towards southern mainland China.
GENER is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between late tomorrow evening and Wednesday morning. It is likely to cross mainland Luzon as a tropical depression, although it may intensify into a tropical storm or weaken slightly before landfall. Over the West Philippine Sea, GENER may reach tropical storm category by tomorrow evening or Wednesday morning.

Heavy Rainfall Outlook:
Refer to Weather Advisory No. 22 issued at 8:00 PM today for the heavy rainfall outlook due to Tropical Depression Gener and the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Gener and Tropical Storm Pulasan.
Severe Winds:
Winds may be slightly stronger in coastal and upland areas exposed to the tropical cyclone. Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Gener and Pulasan will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas:
- Today (16 September): Batanes, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga Region, and Davao Region.
- Tomorrow (17 September): Batanes, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao.
- Wednesday (18 September): Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao.

A Gale Warning is in effect over several coastal waters, including the western and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon, the seaboards of Visayas, and the western, northern, and eastern seaboards of Mindanao. For more details, refer to Gale Warning No. 5 issued at 5:00 PM today.
- Up to rough seas (1.5 to 3.5 m): Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northern seaboards of Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley.
- Up to rough seas (1.5 to 3.0 m): Eastern seaboard of Bicol Region, the seaboard of Visayas outside Gale Warning areas, and the eastern seaboards of Caraga Region and Davao Region.
Small seacrafts and motorbancas are advised not to venture out under these conditions, especially for inexperienced mariners or those operating ill-equipped vessels.
- Up to moderate seas (up to 2.5 m): The remaining seaboards of the country outside Gale Warning areas.
Mariners of small seacrafts should take precautionary measures and avoid navigation where necessary.
