Super Typhoon Bavi Slightly Weakens, May Enter PAR Tonight or Early Wednesday

Super Typhoon Bavi has slightly weakened while moving west northwestward outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, PAGASA said on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2026. The tropical cyclone may enter PAR between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning, where it will be given the local name Inday.

Super Typhoon Bavi remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility but is expected to enter PAR soon, according to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Advisory No. 3 issued at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

Once inside PAR, Bavi will be given the local name Inday.

Although PAGASA said there is still a low chance of landfall over any part of Luzon, the super typhoon’s wide circulation and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon may still bring wind and rainfall effects to parts of the country in the coming days.

Location, Strength, and Movement

As of 10:00 AM, the center of the eye of Super Typhoon Bavi was estimated at 1,845 kilometers east of Central Luzon, outside PAR.

Bavi had maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 230 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 930 hectopascals.

It was moving west northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour.

Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outward up to 800 kilometers from the center.

When Will Bavi Enter PAR?

PAGASA said Super Typhoon Bavi may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Tuesday evening, July 7, and early Wednesday morning, July 8.

While over the Philippine Sea, Bavi is forecast to move generally northwestward toward the Ryukyu Islands.

The tropical cyclone is expected to remain a super typhoon as it enters PAR.

Possible Wind Signals

PAGASA said wind signals may be raised over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon as early as Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

The highest wind signal that may be hoisted during Bavi’s passage is likely Signal No. 2 or Signal No. 3.

Due to uncertainty in the extent of Bavi’s wind field, PAGASA said the possibility of raising wind signals over the eastern portions of Southern Luzon and Visayas is not ruled out.

Southwest Monsoon Effects

The enhanced Southwest Monsoon and the outer circulation of Super Typhoon Bavi may bring strong to gale-force gusts, especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds.

PAGASA listed the following areas that may be affected:

Tuesday, July 7

  • Most of Mindanao

Wednesday, July 8

  • Pangasinan
  • Zambales
  • Bataan
  • Cavite
  • Batangas
  • Most of MIMAROPA
  • Most of Bicol Region
  • Most of Visayas
  • Most of Mindanao

Thursday, July 9

  • Most of the country

For Baguio City and the Cordillera, residents are advised to continue monitoring updates, especially as Bavi enters PAR and the Southwest Monsoon becomes more active.

Communities in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas should stay updated with rainfall advisories and local disaster risk reduction announcements.

Heavy Rainfall Outlook

PAGASA also issued Weather Advisory No. 4 at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 7, for the heavy rainfall outlook due to the Southwest Monsoon.

From Wednesday noon to Thursday noon, July 9, rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters may affect:

  • Antique

From Thursday noon to Friday noon, July 10, rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters may affect:

  • Lanao del Norte
  • Lanao del Sur

PAGASA said rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Impacts may also be worse in places that have already experienced significant rainfall in the past days.

Marine Hazards

PAGASA said a Gale Warning associated with rough to very rough sea conditions will be issued by Wednesday, July 8, over the northern and eastern seaboards of the Philippines.

Mariners and operators of small vessels are advised to monitor marine advisories before venturing out to sea.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Bavi is forecast to continue moving west northwestward before entering PAR between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

It is expected to move northwestward over the Philippine Sea toward the Ryukyu Islands.

PAGASA said Bavi may gradually weaken as it moves near Extreme Northern Luzon and approaches the area east of Taiwan.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to continue monitoring updates related to the tropical cyclone.

Unless an intermediate advisory is issued, the next tropical cyclone advisory will be released at 11:00 PM today, July 7, 2026.
