STS Kristine continues to move over CAR





Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Kristine continues to move over the Cordillera Administrative Region, affecting several areas with strong winds and heavy rainfall. The storm is expected to bring significant impacts to northern Luzon, particularly in mountainous regions where landslides and flooding are of concern. As Kristine moves west-southwestward, residents in its path should prepare for worsening weather conditions throughout the day.

Current Location and Intensity

As of 10:00 AM, the center of Kristine was near Bauko, Mountain Province, with maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h and gusts up to 160 km/h. The storm is moving west-southwest at 20 km/h.

Additional Hazards

  • Heavy Rainfall: Flash floods and landslides are likely in mountainous and low-lying areas. For specific rainfall advisories, refer to Weather Advisory No. 20.
  • Coastal Inundation: There is a minimal to moderate risk of storm surge up to 2 meters in low-lying coastal areas of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Zambales.
  • Sea Conditions: Very rough seas with waves up to 8 meters are expected along the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas. Sea travel is highly discouraged.

Outlook

Kristine is expected to leave Luzon this afternoon and re-enter the sea over the West Philippine Sea, where it may re-intensify. It is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by tomorrow afternoon (25 October).
