UBian Nesthy Petecio’s Win Assures PH of Multiple Olympic Medals After 89 Years
Filipina boxer and University of Baguio student-athlete Nesthy Petecio has assured the Philippines of at least one more medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
This, after winning against Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda of Colombia via a unanimous decision during the women’s featherweight quarterfinals on Wednesday at the Kokugikan Arena.

The 29-year old boxer garnered a 30-27 total score from two judges, and a 29-28 from the three others, garnering a 5-0 win.
With her victory, Petecio will now advance to the semifinals and is assured of at least a bronze medal. She is set to face Italy’s Irma Testa on July 31, 2021.
Petecio’s medal and weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz’s record-breaking gold medal win will be the country’s first multiple medal win after 89 years since the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.
