Kiyapo Intensifies Into Tropical Storm; Benguet Remains Under Signal No. 1

Tropical Storm Kiyapo slightly intensified as it moved closer to Extreme Northern Luzon, PAGASA said late Friday morning, July 24, 2026. Benguet remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, while Signal No. 2 is now raised over parts of Northern Luzon.

According to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 10 issued at 11:00 AM, the center of Tropical Storm Kiyapo was estimated at 135 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan as of 10:00 AM.

Kiyapo had maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 996 hectopascals.

It was moving westward at 30 kilometers per hour.

Signal No. 2 Areas

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is raised over:

– Batanes

– Northern portion of Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands

– Northern portion of Apayao

– Northern portion of Ilocos Norte

Areas under Signal No. 2 may experience gale-force winds that may bring minor to moderate impacts to life and property.

Signal No. 1 Areas

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is raised over:

– Rest of mainland Cagayan

– Isabela

– Quirino

– Nueva Vizcaya

– Rest of Apayao

– Abra

– Kalinga

– Mountain Province

– Ifugao

– Benguet

– Rest of Ilocos Norte

– Ilocos Sur

– La Union

– Northern and central portions of Aurora

Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds that may bring minimal to minor impacts.

Residents in Benguet and nearby areas are advised to secure loose outdoor objects, especially in exposed and upland areas.

Habagat and Rainfall Outlook

The Southwest Monsoon and the outer circulation of Kiyapo may also bring strong winds over most of the country today.

These conditions may continue to affect most of Luzon and Visayas on Saturday, July 25, and parts of Luzon, MIMAROPA, Zambales, Bataan, and Quezon on Sunday, July 26.

Residents in Baguio City, Benguet, and nearby mountain areas are advised to monitor local rainfall advisories, especially in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, rockslides, and flash floods.

Sea Conditions

A Gale Warning is in effect over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said very rough seas may affect the seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, where waves may reach up to 5.5 meters.

Waves may also reach up to 4.5 meters over the northern seaboards of mainland Cagayan and Ilocos Norte.

Sea travel is risky for all types of vessels in these areas. Mariners are advised to remain in port or seek shelter until winds and waves subside.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Kiyapo is forecast to continue moving west northwestward toward the Luzon Strait until Saturday, July 25, before turning northwestward to northward.

PAGASA said the center of Kiyapo may pass close to the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan between Friday morning and afternoon, then pass very close to or make landfall near the Babuyan Islands between Friday afternoon and evening.

Kiyapo is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning.

PAGASA said Kiyapo may continue to intensify while crossing Extreme Northern Luzon and may become a severe tropical storm after passing the Babuyan Islands. It may further intensify over the West Philippine Sea before making landfall over southern mainland China.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 2:00 PM today.
