Heavy Rains Cripple Key Road in Apayao and Benguet | Kennon Road temporarily closed

The Department of Public Works and Highways has released an updated road situation and travel advisory for motorists traveling within the Cordillera Administrative Region. As of 7:00 AM today, five major road sections remain not passable due to recent heavy rains and slope failures.

Motorists are advised to take note of the following affected road sections and plan their trips accordingly.

Roads Not Passable

Apayao

  1. Claveria–Calanasan–Kabugao Road
    Location: Brgy. Ninoy, Calanasan, Apayao

No alternate routes are available for these Apayao sections.

Benguet

  1. Kennon Road

Reason: Continuous rockfall at the entrance of the rockshed
    Status: Equipment on standby

Kennon Road is temporarily closed to all motorists and vehicle types except residents along Kennon Road due to unstable slope conditions caused by heavy rainfall.
    Alternate routes:

    • Marcos Highway

    • Asin–Nangalisan–San Pascual–La Union Boundary Road

  2. Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road
    Location: Datakan, Kapangan, Benguet

Status: Warning and traffic signs installed, continuous monitoring in place
    Alternate routes:

    • Datakan–Labueg Road

    • Aso–Datakan Road

Other Roads

All other previously reported road closures are now passable. However, motorists are reminded to drive with caution as weather conditions may still trigger sudden changes along mountain highways.

Motorist Advisory

Authorities advise all travelers to exercise extreme caution when using newly opened roads. Hazards may still be present, including debris, soft shoulders, or ongoing clearing operations.

Drive slowly, follow all traffic signs, and remain alert for sudden changes in road conditions. Your safety remains the top priority. Stay updated through official advisories before traveling.
