The Department of Education of the Cordillera Administrative Region (DepEd-CAR) has already taken action with regards to the learning resources that went viral through social media with “content prejudicial to the Indigenous Peoples of the Region.”
“DepEd-CAR was able to trace the source of Material A since the reference and author were captured. Material A was made by a teacher in Region 2, who also lifted the content from a textbook published by Vibal,” stated DepEd-CAR through a social media post published by the DepEd Tayo Cordillera Facebook page on Saturday, February 6, 2021.
According to the DepED-CAR, it was printed by one school in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya. When their attention was called, copies were said to have been retrieved. “The source region urgently rectified the matter by modifying the content and writing a letter of apology to CAR,” the department added.
Through the same Facebook post, the DepED-CAR has also shown Materials B and C. However, the department disclosed that the said materials cannot be tracked since relevant references establishing the learning area, grade level, developer, Region or Division were not captured.
Below are the following measures which shall be undertaken by the DepED-CAR, as provided in the DepEd Tayo Cordillera Facebook page, to keep its stakeholders “well-directed in their knowledge about IPs” and to call the attention of other stakeholders “to be proactive and help in putting a stop to this persistent form of discrimination.”
A letter of apology has also been released by the DepEd Region II – School Division of Batanes:
