“Danas” Intensifies into a Typhoon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that Typhoon Danas (formerly known locally as “#BisingPH”) has intensified further while continuing to impact weather across Northern Luzon. The typhoon’s trough, combined with the Southwest Monsoon, is bringing light to occasionally heavy rains to multiple provinces.

Location and Intensity
As of 10:00 AM, the center of Typhoon Danas was estimated 385 km west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes (21.8°N, 118.3°E).
- Maximum sustained winds: 120 km/h near the center
- Gustiness: Up to 150 km/h
- Central pressure: 975 hPa
- Movement: North-northeastward at 10 km/h
- Wind extent: Strong to typhoon-force winds extending up to 330 km from the center

Sea Condition Outlook
PAGASA has raised a Gale Warning over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon. Mariners are strongly advised to remain in port until conditions improve.
Expected sea conditions:
Very Rough Seas (up to 4.5 m):
- Seaboard of Batanes
- Western seaboard of Babuyan Islands
- Sea travel is risky for all vessels.

Rough Seas (up to 3.5 m):
- Western seaboard of Ilocos Norte
- Mariners of small vessels are advised not to venture out.
Moderate to Rough Seas (2.0–2.5 m):
- Northwestern seaboard of Ilocos Sur
- Remaining seaboards of Ilocos Norte
- Western seaboards of La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales
- Small boats should take precautionary measures.
Rainfall Advisory No. 28
At 11:00 AM today, PAGASA’s Regional Services Division – Northern Luzon issued Rainfall Advisory No. 28, warning of continued rains associated with Typhoon Danas and the Southwest Monsoon.
Light to Moderate to occasionally Heavy rains are affecting:
- Batanes
- La Union
- Portions of Ilocos Sur
- Portions of Abra
- Ilocos Norte
- Benguet
- Ifugao (Asipulo)
- Nueva Vizcaya (Bayombong, Solano, Alfonso Castañeda)
- Pangasinan
These conditions may persist over the next 2–3 hours and affect nearby areas.
Light to Moderate rains are also expected over:
- Cagayan (Calayan, Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri)
- Portions of Quirino
- Portions of Kalinga
- Portions of Apayao
- Portions of Mountain Province
- The rest of Ifugao
- The rest of Nueva Vizcaya
- Portions of Aurora

Residents in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas are urged to be prepared and continue monitoring advisories.
Track and Intensity Forecast
Typhoon Danas is forecast to:
- Continue moving northeastward over the next 36 hours
- Possibly re-enter the northwestern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight or early tomorrow, then exit again soon after
- Steadily intensify while over open waters
- Weaken into a remnant low by Thursday (July 10) as it interacts with the landmass of China
Public Advisory
PAGASA reminds the public and disaster risk reduction offices to:
- Monitor official bulletins and local updates regularly
- Refrain from sea travel in affected coastal waters
- Prepare emergency supplies and evacuation plans if necessary
The next tropical cyclone advisory will be issued at 11:00 PM today, while rainfall advisories may be updated as conditions change.
