[UPDATED] Cordillera to be placed under GCQ according to Mayor Magalong

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has announced that the entire Cordillera Region will be placed on General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting February 1, 2021 (Monday) until February  28, 2021 (Sunday).

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has confirmed that the entire Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will be placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting February 1, 2021.

Here’s the statement of Mayor Magalong during the One Baguio Shield Summit held today, January 26, 2021.

“I just received the information that effective February 1 we will be classified GCQ, the entire Cordillera will be classified as GCQ because of this threat of the UK variant at the same time because of the increasing number of cases in the Cordillera.”

The entire region of Cordillera will be under GCQ status as recommended by the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) due to the UK variant that has been detected in the Cordillera Administrative Region, particularly in Bontoc Mt. Province and La Trinidad, Benguet.

Mayor Magalong added that he will have a meeting with the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (LISTT) mayors to discuss border control and other measures.

What is General Community Quarantine?

The City of Baguio was placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) on May 15, 2020, until May 31, 202, before the city shifted to Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) status on June 1, 2020.

Restrictions under the GCQ status include food establishments limited to 30% capacity as per the latest GCQ guidelines by the IATF, and persons aged fifteen (15) years old and below, or sixty-five (65) years old and above must remain in their residences at all times.
