By Baguio City temporarily eased restrictions on PUJ’s
The City Government of Baguio has eased restrictions on Public Utility Jeepneys particularly on the use of plastic barriers. This is after Baguio has recorded a low number of cases for several weeks prompting the IATF to lower Baguio City’s category from Alert level 3 to Alert Level 2.
The plastic barriers that were previously installed inside jeepneys are no longer needed. It can be remembered that the placing of plastic barriers to separate passengers inside the jeepneys became mandatory for the safety of the riding public. Starting yesterday, December 6, 2021 the plastic barriers may no longer be installed inside PUJ’s.
Not without other safety conditions
While the LGU of Baguio no longer required plastic barriers inside the jeepneys, there are other conditions and precautions that were implemented to still ensure the health and safety of the public, these conditions are also placed to ensure that the needs of the riding public are met. Among these are:
- Instead of plastic dividers, red or yellow numbers will be placed as indicators or guide for those riding the jeepney. This will help ensure that the 70% maximum capacity is observed.
- PUJ’s shall strictly comply with the 70% maximum capacity.
- PUJ’s are exempted from the number coding scheme temporarily. This is to help ease the long queuing during rush hour.
- All PUJ units are allowed to operate except for Trancoville and Aurora Hill Routes which are limited to only 100 units.
- PUJ operation time can now start at 4:00AM from Monday to Sunday.
- ALL Baguio and LISST PUJ’s are still subject to the LTFRB Issued Special Permits, those operating without the LTFRB Special Permits may face sanctions.
