Baguio City Government extends suspension of non-essential travels into the city
The City government of Baguio has extended the temporary suspension of non-essential travels to the city until August 15, 2021. The temporary suspension of non-essential travel to Baguio City was released through Advisory 08-2021.
The reason for the extension
The City Government of Baguio through the City Mayor’s office cited the increasing cases of Delta variant in the Philippines. It can be recalled that the COVID-19 Delta variant is said to be the main reason of the uncontrollable surge which caused a lot of deaths in India, April of this year. The Delta variant has also been detected in the Philippines and just recently a case of Delta variant infection was discovered in Apayao.
In addition to this, the Advisory also cited the fact that NCR and nearby areas are going into stricter lockdowns. Benguet has also implemented stricter border control measures in hopes of controlling or preventing the entry of the said deadly COVID-19 Delta variant.
The City Mayor of Baguio cautioned Baguio residents to limit travels outside of Baguio unless it is absolutely necessary.
