Super Typhoon Bavi May Enter PAR as Inday Between July 7 and 8

Super Typhoon Bavi continues to move west northwestward near the Northern Mariana Islands and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Tuesday evening, July 7, and early Wednesday morning, July 8. Once inside PAR, it will be given the local name Inday.

Super Typhoon Bavi is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility but is being closely monitored as it moves west northwestward near the Northern Mariana Islands, PAGASA said in its 11:00 AM advisory on Monday, July 6, 2026.

According to PAGASA, Bavi is forecast to enter PAR between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning. Although the chance of landfall over Luzon remains low, the tropical cyclone may still affect parts of the country through strong winds, enhanced monsoon rains, and rough coastal waters.

Location, Strength, and Movement

As of 10:00 AM, the center of the eye of Super Typhoon Bavi was estimated at 2,215 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Bavi had maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 250 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 910 hectopascals.

It was moving west northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour.

Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outward up to 800 kilometers from the center.

When Will Bavi Enter PAR?

PAGASA said Super Typhoon Bavi may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Tuesday evening, July 7, and early Wednesday morning, July 8.

Once inside PAR, the tropical cyclone will be given the local name Inday.

While over the Philippine Sea, Bavi is forecast to move generally northwestward toward the Ryukyu Islands.

Possible Land Hazards

PAGASA said there is still a low chance of landfall over any part of Luzon.

However, because of Bavi’s intensity and wide wind field, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may be raised over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon as early as Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

The highest wind signal during its passage may reach Signal No. 2 or Signal No. 3.

Due to uncertainty in the radius of strong winds, PAGASA said the possibility of raising wind signals over the eastern portions of Southern Luzon and Visayas is not ruled out.

Monsoon Rains and Strong Winds

PAGASA said conditions may become windy over most parts of the country beginning Tuesday or Wednesday due to the Southwest Monsoon.

The enhanced Southwest Monsoon and Super Typhoon Bavi may also bring heavy rains over the northern and western portions of the country.

A Weather Advisory may be issued in anticipation of these heavy rains.

For Baguio City and the Cordillera, residents are advised to continue monitoring updates, especially with the possibility of monsoon rains affecting parts of Northern Luzon in the coming days.

Communities in landslide-prone and flood-prone areas should stay updated with advisories from PAGASA and local disaster risk reduction and management offices.

Marine Hazards

PAGASA said a Gale Warning may be issued by Wednesday, July 8, over the northern and eastern seaboards of the Philippines.

This will be associated with rough to very rough sea conditions.

Mariners and small vessel operators are advised to monitor marine advisories before venturing out to sea.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Bavi is forecast to maintain its strength as a super typhoon as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Gradual weakening is expected as it moves near Extreme Northern Luzon while approaching the area east of Taiwan.

PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices to continue monitoring updates related to the tropical cyclone.

Unless an intermediate advisory is issued, the next tropical cyclone advisory will be released at 11:00 PM today, July 6, 2026.
