Tropical Storm Outside PAR May Enter as Francisco Tonight
PAGASA said the tropical storm east of Southeastern Luzon has slightly intensified and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or Sunday morning.
A tropical storm outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has slightly intensified while moving over the Philippine Sea east of Southeastern Luzon, according to DOST-PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Advisory No. 4 issued at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
Based on available data, the center of the tropical storm was estimated at 1,590 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, still outside PAR.
The tropical storm has maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 105 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 996 hPa.
It is moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour.
Strong to gale-force winds extend outward up to 350 kilometers from the center.
Expected to Enter PAR Tonight or Sunday Morning
PAGASA said the tropical storm is forecast to move generally west-northwestward and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or on Sunday morning, June 21.
Once inside PAR, the tropical cyclone will be given the domestic name Francisco.
At this time, PAGASA said a landfall scenario remains less likely.
May Reach Typhoon Category
The tropical cyclone is expected to continue intensifying and may reach typhoon category by Sunday.
Due to its possible close proximity to land on Tuesday, June 23, and Wednesday, June 24, PAGASA said the hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon is not ruled out.
However, this will still depend on the cyclone’s track in the next advisories.
Possible Effects on Extreme Northern Luzon
PAGASA said the tropical storm will begin affecting the weather conditions of Extreme Northern Luzon beginning Tuesday.
Moderate to rough seas due to the tropical storm may also be experienced over the northern and eastern coastal waters of Northern Luzon on Tuesday.
The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to continue monitoring updates from PAGASA.
Unless an intermediate advisory is issued, the next tropical cyclone advisory will be released at 11:00 PM today.
