Super Typhoon Uwan Moves Over Camarines Norte; Benguet Now Under Signal No. 4

Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) continues to move west northwestward over the coastal waters of Camarines Norte, bringing life-threatening winds and torrential rains across Bicol Region, Central Luzon, and parts of Northern Luzon. The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), including Benguet, is now under Signal No. 4.

Current Status

  • Location of Eye/Center (1:00 PM): 135 km North Northwest of Virac, Catanduanes or 100 km Northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte (14.7°N, 123.7°E)
  • Movement: West northwestward at 30 km/h
  • Maximum Sustained Winds: 185 km/h near the center
  • Gustiness: Up to 230 km/h
  • Extent of Winds: Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 900 km from the center

Forecast Track and Intensity

Uwan is forecast to move west northwestward over the next 24 hours, passing close to Calaguas and Polillo Islands this afternoon or evening before making landfall over Aurora tonight or early tomorrow morning. After landfall, it will traverse Northern Luzon, emerging over Lingayen Gulf by Monday morning before weakening as it moves northward toward Taiwan by midweek.

  • Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao (remaining areas), Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Marinduque, Albay, Sorsogon, Ticao and Burias Islands
    Visayas:Northern Samar

Signal No. 2 – Gale-force Winds

Minor to moderate threat to life and property

Luzon: Rest of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Masbate
Visayas:Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Northern and central Leyte

Minimal to minor threat to life and property

Luzon:Batanes, northern Palawan, Calamian Islands, Cuyo Islands, Cagayancillo Islands

Hazards Affecting Land Areas

Heavy Rainfall

Heavy to torrential rains will persist over Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, and Eastern Visayas, extending to CAR and Central Luzon through Monday. Flooding and landslides are expected in mountainous and low-lying areas.

Severe Winds

  • Signal No. 5: Extreme destruction from super typhoon-force winds
  • Signal No. 4: Severe damage to structures and vegetation
  • Signal No. 3: Significant damage from storm-force winds
  • Signal No. 2: Moderate damage possible in exposed areas
  • Signal No. 1: Light damage to structures made of light materials

Storm Surge

Storm surges exceeding 3.0 meters are possible in Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and parts of Northern Samar. Coastal flooding may also occur in Metro Manila, Bataan, Pangasinan, and La Union.

Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters

A Gale Warning remains in effect for most Luzon and Visayas seaboards. Sea conditions range from rough to very high (up to 14 meters). All sea travel remains risky and prohibited for all types of vessels.

Advisory

  • Residents in Signal No. 4 and 5 areas are advised to stay indoors and seek shelter in sturdy structures.
  • Avoid riverbanks, steep slopes, and coastal areas due to possible storm surges and landslides.
  • Fisherfolk and mariners should not venture to sea until conditions improve.
  • Continue monitoring official PAGASA bulletins and local government advisories for the latest updates.
