NDRRMC Warns Public Against Fake Emergency Cash Transfer Text Scam
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has issued a warning to the public regarding a fraudulent text message falsely claiming that recipients have received ₱5000 in emergency cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through GCash.
The deceptive message, which appears to come from NDRRMC, includes a suspicious shortened link and falsely informs recipients that the cash aid is part of a flood relief program. The public is strongly advised not to click on any links included in the message. The official NDRRMC number is strictly used for disaster alerts and advisories, not for financial transactions or aid distribution.
“Mag-ingat at maging alerto,” NDRRMC reminded. The agency emphasized that it does not coordinate cash aid distribution and that any legitimate assistance will only come through the official channels of the DSWD.
Those seeking government assistance are advised to contact or visit the official social media pages and websites of the DSWD for accurate and verified information.
To report suspicious messages or potential scams, the public may contact the Cybercrime Division of the PNP or the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) hotline 1326.
Stay informed. Stay alert. And always verify before you click.
