Rotarians kick off new Rotary Year with Tree Planting Activity

Rotary Club District 3790 Cluster 1-C, gathered early today, July 1, 2019, and conducted a Tree Planting Activity as a kickoff project for Rotary Year 2019-2020.

Why does the Rotary Year start on July of every year?

The term “Rotary year” has been used to signify Rotary’s annual administrative period since at least 1913. And ever since the executive committee agreed and designated June 30 as the end and July 1 as the beginning of the fiscal year, it has been followed in commemoration of Rotary’s first fiscal year.

The activity, spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Baguio Sunrise in partnership with the Public Information Office-Baguio and Zymph Business Solutions Inc., is an initiative of the Rotarians to help save the City of Pines.

Rotary Club of Baguio Sunrise Past President Larry Apostol said that aside from being their kickoff project for the new Rotary Year, the tree planting activity was done district-wide since it is one of the areas of focus of the Rotarians’ Environmental Progam.

About 100 Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Rotakids from different Rotary Clubs in Baguio and La Trinidad participated and planted trees at the Pine Trees of the World Park along Gov. Pack Road, Baguio City.
