Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake jolts Candon City; tremors reach Baguio City and Itogon
A magnitude 5.3 earthquake rocked the City of Candon Thursday afternoon. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) earthquake information, the earthquake occurred at 02:08:53 PM.
The epicenter of the earthquake was pinpointed at 17.14°N, 119.94°E – 053 km S 87° W of City Of Candon (Ilocos Sur). The earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.3, with a depth of focus of 10 km. The origin of the earthquake is tectonic.
Intensity I earthquake was also felt in Baguio City and Itogon, Benguet.
Instrumental Intensities were also logged in the following areas:
- Intensity III – Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
- Intensity II – Sinait, Ilocos Sur; San Antonio, Zambales; Bolinao and Dagupan City, Pangasinan
- Intensity I – Infanta, Pangasinan; Pasuquin and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
The PHIVOLCS does not expect any damage but is expecting aftershocks.
