Jogging to be Allowed in Baguio City

As Baguio City will transition from Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting May 16, 2020, some sectors will be allowed to operate. Moreover, Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced today the opening of  Burnham Park, roads and streets, and the Athletic Bowl for running and other exercise activities with a limited capacity.

Baguio City to allow Jogging and Zumba under GCQ

Activities Allowed at Burnham Park

Based on the GCQ Transition Plan for the City of Baguio that was published on the official Facebook page of the Public Information Office – Baguio (PIO), jogging and Zumba will be allowed in Burnham Park from Monday to Saturday, 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM during the GCQ period.

Jogging around Burnham Lake or at the Athletic Bowl oval will be allowed while Zumba or group exercise will also be permitted with a maximum of ten (10) persons per group at the following designated areas:

  • Melvin Jones (4 groups)
  • Rose Garden (1 group)
  • Biking Area (2 groups)

Zumba groups should have a personal logbook for members and must strictly implement wearing of facemasks and physical distancing (5 meters apart).

Persons Not Allowed to Join Exercises at Burnham Park
As persons who are 21 years old and below and those 60 years old and above are not allowed to go out, they cannot join the conduct of exercises at Burnham Park from Monday to Saturday. However, the city decided to allow senior citizens to run on Sundays only.

Physical Fitness Activities along Roads/Streets 

Furthermore, aside from allowing activities at Burnham Park, running and biking will be allowed along roads and streets from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Fitness Pass

All those who plan to go out to exercise need to secure a fitness pass from the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO)

[As of May 13, 2020] Mayor Magalong mentioned that aside from allowing jogging at Burnham Park, they will also permit Zumba routines starting from 5:00 AM up to 8:00 AM only. Moreover, only 15 participants will be allowed, strictly following a 5-meter distance per participant.

On the other hand, jogging along roads and streets will be allowed from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

Reminders from Mayor Magalong

  1. For those who are planning to exercise in the areas mentioned above, Mayor Magalong said that you need to get a separate quarantine pass
  2. You must specify what day you’ll go out for exercise.
  3. You must be home by 8:00 AM and cannot use your pass to go to the market.
