Is your barangay in Baguio City Smoke-Free?



In the City of Baguio, 16 outstanding barangays were named as top performing communities in the implementation of Baguio City’s Smoke-free Campaign. The list of barangays was revealed by the Public Information Office (PIO) – City of Baguio.

16 Top Performing Baguio Barangays

Here are the following top performing barangays in the city stated in the PIO-City of Baguio post.

These  barangays in the city has earned the “Green” Badge which is the highest level of achievement for actively enforcing the smoke-free programs in their areas of jurisdiction according to Mayor Benjamin Magalong who is the head of  Smoke-Free Baguio Task Force

“The Smoke-Free Baguio Task Force headed by Mayor Benjamin Magalong said these barangays have been actively enforcing the smoke-free programs in their areas of jurisdiction thus earned the “green” badge, the highest level of achievement. ”

  • Barangay Lopez Jaena
  • Barangay Andres Bonifacio (Lower Bokawkan)
  • Barangay Upper Market Subdivision
  • Barangay Palma Urbano (Cariño-Palma)
  • Barangay Middle Rock Quarry
  • Barangay Poliwes
  • Barangay Irisan (San Carlos Heights)
  • Barangay ABCR
  • Barangay T. Alonzo
  • Barangay Gibraltar
  • Barangay Camdas Subdivision
  • Barangay Lower Quirino Hill
  • Barangay Middle Quirino Hill
  • Barangay West Quirino Hill
  • Barangay Camp Allen

Also, the mentioned barangays “have approved ordinances adopting Ordinance No. 34-2017 or the Smoke-Free Baguio Ordinance and have been extensively conducting compliance monitoring and information-education-communication (IEC) activities” according to Smoke-Free Project Team Leader Cecille Agpawa.

Furthermore, for the remaining barangays in the city, here are the ranks:

  • “Yellow” Badge (second best): 37 Baguio Barangays
  • “Blue” Badge (third best): 27 Baguio Barangays
  • “Red” Zone (not being able to implement the smoke-free program): 49 Baguio Barangays

In addition, according to Agpawa out of the 128 barangays in the city:

  • 21 Baguio Barangays have approved ordinances adopting the implementation of the Smoke-Free Baguio Ordinance.
  • 70 Baguio Barangays conducted at least one compliance monitoring visit or monitored establishments and others.
  • 18 Baguio Barangays have issued citation tickets to violators.
  • 55 Baguio Barangays conducted IEC activities.

As stated in the PIO-Baguio post, the Smoke-Free Baguio Task Force targets to implement a merit system for the smoke-free program implementation in 2021.
