If Your Father Is A Superhero…Honoring Dad on Fathers Day

A child, during their formative years create an impression on who their Father is to them. Usually, Fathers are seen as Superheroes, because as a child we all believe in our Father’s extraordinary ability in taking care of the family. As a child we also try to imitate our Fathers’ superhero powers. On this premise, we asked some Baguio folks, regular people who gladly accepted our request for them to participate in this activity by simply answering the question: “If Your Father is a Superhero, which Superhero would he be and why?”

Here are their Answers:

1. Superman

“Hmm. I’d say superman
I think with all the superheroes he has the most colorful background, and has been so famous that even kids now still know him. And nothing beats super hihi”

–Chino Chow

“…siguro po si Superman kasi si daddy parang si Clark Kent eh. Ordinaryong tao lang siya, dinadaan daanan, hindi masyadong napapansin pero pag kailangan namin siya, andyan siya palagi para supportahan at protektahan kami.”

–Jasmine Lazo

2. Captain America

Captain America sir. Because if he believes in something, he’ll do anything to make sure he achieves them, even though everyone says otherwise. His loyalty for family is also unwavering.

–Lea Malanum

3.Iron Man

“My father is comparable to Iron Man. Eccentric, creative, and inventive, they both manifest these characteristics. He may not be a billionaire and a playboy like the man but I think he has the wits. His versatile capabilities enables him to work well with stuff involving electrical, electronics, mechanical and a lot more. He is not much into emotion but I believe he is more than that. Also, With his playful mind he brings humor to the atmosphere most of the time. In conclusion, if he was a superhero, he could be Iron Man.”

–Jerricko Mabanta

4. Invisible Man

Invisible Man

“We always call my dad invisible man. It’s because he’s not always around since he’s working abroad. Even so, he never fails to let us feel his love and care. He may not be there during the highlights of our lives but he always lets us know how proud and happy he is. He may not be with us physically, but we know that we are always in his thoughts and in his heart.”

–Abigail Jessica Cortez

5. Uzumaki Naruto

If my dad was a superhero, he would be Naruto Uzumaki. Like Naruto, dad always jokes around, eats a lot, and insistently does things his way (though mom tells him no). But he also strives to excel and improve in anything that he is passionate about. He always thinks about what’s best for our family, even though it requires some sacrifice on his part. He always sees the potential of people and encourages them to improve and become the best of themselves, just like Naruto. But nine tails or none, my dad is and always will be the mightiest superhero for me.

6. Hiko Seijuro XIII

Hiko Seijuro XIII

If our dad is a superhero, he would be Hiko Seijouro XIII, because he is quiet, a deep thinker, and you can always count on him when things get tough.

–Vince and Ben

7. Captain Barbell

captain barbell

my dad is Captain Barbell (Ogie Alcasid). he might be funny and entertaining and he might not seem much but he will always be ready to save me and protect me. He thinks that I am his precious doll but I cant blame him. I’m his only daughter and just like Captain Barbell, he has Manila to save and he would not think twice to save me from anything.

–Relyn Manuel

8. MacGyver

MacGyver wahahahahaha hindi sha superhero pero magaling mag hack tatay ko.

–Anne

9. Gru

I consider my Dad to be similar to Gru, because although he is villain-looking on the outside, he actually is soft in the inside, he is very good in taking care of children and he is a very responsible family man.

–Eon

10. Superman

Death took not just my dad, but my unsung hero…

My dad joined our creator early. The line “life begins at 40” never happened for him. He was taken away 2 months before his 40th birthday. But allow me to share with you a bit of my super hero dad.

My dad is maybe just an ordinary person for most people, but to me he is my Superman! He has this superhuman strength and stamina to endure all the pain and sickness he goes through just to be able to get things done. The speed and flight power he posses to show up in time whenever we need him, he’s there in a flash! His hearing ability to hear all our unspoken pains and problems and ultra vison to see everything that would probably harm us in any way. He has this multiple extrasensory powers that could sense what we cannot speak of.

My Superman has healing factor that can ease the pain away from us. Because a tear rolling down is like a kryptonite nearing him. He is a humble man. Sits quietly and is willing to help anyone in need, most specially his loved ones. He is not like Batman who is wealthy and is driven by vengeance. He is my Superman he is a regular guy with a good heart plus super powers!

Just like Superman, my dad faced a lot of villains. In my dad’s case, he faced his own demons and problems like a brave Clark Jerome Kent.

Almost 18 years has already gone by since the day you left this life. But your legacy lives through among us, your off springs. I wouldn’t want any superhero in my life. You are more than enough.

Coming to the end of this short commemoration of you, I’m getting teary-eyed, because I cannot touch you anymore. All I can get is a hug from you in my prayers and in my dreams that reminds me to remain strong and fight my demons.

You are my superhero. Happy father’s day papa.. my original Superman. I know heaven gained an angel because of you..

From your one and only but not so little princess,

–Jamaeca Alexis Pascua
