How to be a Pisay Scholar 2022: Requirements for Admission, Criteria, and Evaluation

The Philippine Science High School is now accepting scholarship applications for incoming grade 7 students who are interested in the field of Science and Technology.  Below are the requirements, criteria, and selection process on how to be a Pisay scholar. What is the PSHS RACE?

The Philippine Sciences High School Requirements for Admission, Criteria, and Evaluation (PSHS RACE) is Pisay’s new scholarship application and screening system for aspiring incoming Grade 7 students.

PSHS Scholarship Benefits

Successful applicants of the PSHS RACE are entitled to the following scholarship benefits:

• Free tuition fee
• Monthly stipend
• Living Allowance (based on socio-economic status)
• Free loan of textbooks
• Dormitory accommodation (subject to availability of rooms / beds)

Pisay Scholarship Eligibility

A grade 6 elementary pupil from a duly recognized school by DepEd must meet the following criteria below to be eligible for the PSHS RACE:

• Applicant must have a final grade of 85% or better in Science and Mathematics, evidenced by the student’s report card. If the student’s grades in Science or Math are below 85%, then, he/she must provide evidence that he/she belongs to the upper 10% of the batch.
• be a Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as immigrant to any foreign country;
• not be more than 15 years old by June 30, 2022;
• have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in his/her Character Rating in his/her report card (SY 2021 – 2022);
• Have not previously applied for admission in PSHS; and
• preferably, be in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program

How to be a Pisay Scholar: Requirements

Walk-in Application:

• Fully accomplished application form.
• Recent 1×1 ID pictures.
• Non-refundable processing fee
  • for private school students – Php 300.00, based on the applicant’s Grade 5 school
  • for public school students and students with full scholarship from private schools – FREE
• A certified true copy of report card (SY 2021 – 2022) by the class adviser/principal.
• If the final grades in Science or Math are below 85%, certification or proof that the child belongs to the upper 10% of the batch.
• Certification from the private school if the pupil-applicant is on full scholarship.

Online Application:

• Scanned/Digitized copy of most recent 1×1 ID pictures
• Scanned/Digitized copy of Proof of Payment
  • Php 300 for private school students;
  • free for public school students and students with full scholarship from private schools)
• Scanned/Digitized copy of a Certified true copy of report card (SY 2021 – 2022) by the class adviser/principal.
• Scanned/Digitized copy of the certification of proof that the child belongs to the upper 10% of the batch if the final grades in Science or Math are below 85%.
• Certification from the private school if the pupil-applicant is on full scholarship.

PSHS RACE Application Period

The deadline of submission of requirements for both private and public schools is on November 15, 2022.

How to be a Pisay Scholar: Application Process

Walk-in Application

1. Download the PSHS NCE Application Form here. The form is not for sale and may be photocopied.
2. Application forms are also available and may be filed at any of the following:
   • PSHS campuses
   • DOST Regional offices
   • Provincial Science and Technology Offices.
3. Application forms with incomplete information will not be processed. Erasures, alterations and insertions must be initialed by the applicant.
4. If you do not receive an email notification that your application has been approved or disapproved, you may visit or call the nearest PSHS Campus or call PSHSS-Admissions Office at telephone no. (02) 8939-PSHS (89397747) or check at www.pshs.edu.ph.

Online Application

1. PSHS NCE Applicants can also submit their applications online at nce.pshs.edu.ph. Applicants must sign up first through this nce.pshs.edu.ph/signup.
2. Applicant must provide the details required in the online application form. In cases where the applicant still needs to prepare the required attachments, he/she will have the option to save it as draft first until he/she has completed the required data and relevant documents. Once submitted, the application is considered final and will no longer be editable.
3. To monitor the status of the applicant’s application, s/he can login through the website and click Application Result.
4. The applicant will also receive an email confirmation whether his/her application has been approved, rejected, or needs pending documents.
5. If you do not receive an email notification that your application has been approved or disapproved, you may visit or call the nearest PSHS Campus or call PSHSS-Admissions Office at telephone no. (02) 8939-PSHS (89397747) or check at www.pshs.edu.ph.

Selection Process

The selection procedure for applicants is divided into two stages:

• First stage: determining the applicant’s predicted National Competitive Examination grade (PNG) which is based on final grades in Science and Mathematics in Grade 5
• Second stage: writing skills through a submission of essay
• Based on the final score, applicants will be ranked from highest to lowest
• The top 240 applicants are considered as the Principal Qualifiers to the PSHS-Main Campus (MC)
• The top 120 candidates in the regional ranking are the Principal Qualifiers of the Regional Campuses in the following PSHS Campus:
  • CALABARZON Region Campus,
  • Central Luzon Campus,
  • Ilocos Region Campus,
  • Cagayan Valley Campus,
  • Western Visayas Campus,
  • Southern Mindanao Campus,
  • SOCCSKSARGEN Region Campus,
  • CARAGA Regional Campus, and
  • Central Mindanao Campus
• The top 90 candidates in the regional ranking are the Principal Qualifiers of the Regional Campuses in the following PSHS Campus:
  • Cordillera Administrative Region Campus,
  • Bicol Region Campus,
  • MIMAROPA Region Campus,
  • Central Visayas Campus,
  • Eastern Visayas Campus,
  • Zamboanga Region Campus
