  1. Tropical Storm Goring’s Current Status: As of 5:00 PM today, Goring has intensified into a tropical storm. It’s currently moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea, east of Basco, Batanes.
  2. Location: The storm’s center is approximately 265 km east of Basco, Batanes.
  3. Intensity: Goring has maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h. Its central pressure is at 1000 hPa.
  4. Movement: The storm is progressing northwestward at a speed of 10 km/h.
  5. Wind Extent: Strong to gale-force winds are extending up to 170 km from the storm’s center. However, no wind signals have been hoisted as of now.

Potential Hazards:

  • Rainfall: While Goring is less likely to cause heavy rainfall over the next three days, any westward shift could result in significant rain over parts of Cagayan Valley. The Southwest Monsoon might also be enhanced by the storm, leading to occasional rains in western Luzon.
  • Winds: Severe winds might affect Northern Luzon, and gusty conditions are expected in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, especially in coastal and mountainous areas.
  • Coastal Waters: Over the next day, Goring could cause moderate to rough seas in Extreme Northern Luzon and the northeastern part of mainland Cagayan. Mariners, especially those inexperienced or with ill-equipped vessels, are advised to exercise caution.

Forecast:

  • Goring is expected to move west-southwestward, turning southward near the eastern coast of Cagayan Valley. In the next five days, it might loop and shift northward by late Monday or Tuesday.
  • The storm is predicted to intensify, possibly reaching the severe tropical storm category in the next 36 hours and might upgrade to a typhoon by Saturday.
