DepEd Suggested Maximum of Screen Time for Online Students




Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, distance learning was implemented and one of the delivery modalities to be used is Online Distance Learning. With that, the Department of Education (DepEd) has released the suggested screen time for Kindergarten to Grade 12.

This was shared by DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua in a Facebook post yesterday, September 3, 2020.

 Suggested Screen Time for Learners

Here are the following prescribed screen time for learners based on the Department Memorandum 2020-00162 or the “Suggested Strategies in Implementing Distance Learning Delivery Modalities for School Year 2020-2021.”

Grade Level

Suggested Screen Time

Kindergarten Pupils Maximum of 1 hour
Grade 1 to 5 Pupils Maximum of 1.5 hours
Grade 6 to 8 Pupils Maximum of 2 hours
Grade 9 to 12 Pupils  Maximum of 4 hours

  • Two hours in the morning and another two hours in the afternoon. 

Furthermore, it is stated under the memorandum that the suggested screen time for learners was based on the Screen Time Guidelines by Age as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and World Health Organization (WHO).
