Baguio Braces for Enhanced Monsoon as Typhoon Inday Weakens, Exits PAR
Typhoon Inday, with its international name BAVI, is steadily weakening as it moves northwestward, gradually exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). As of 10:00 AM today, July 10, 2026, the center of Inday was located approximately 570 kilometers East of Itbayat, Batanes. It currently packs maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near its center, with gusts reaching up to 170 km/h, moving northwestward at 20 km/h.
PAGASA forecasts indicate that Inday is expected to be outside the PAR by Friday morning, July 11, continuing its northwestward trajectory towards the sea east of Taiwan. By Saturday morning, July 12, it is projected to be nearly 1,000 km north-northwest of Extreme Northern Luzon, or in the vicinity of Zhejiang, China, further weakening into a Severe Tropical Storm.
While Baguio City is not under any direct Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal from Inday, several northern Luzon provinces are experiencing wind threats. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 is raised over Batanes, the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana), indicating gale-force winds with minor to moderate impacts. TCWS No. 1 is in effect for the rest of Babuyan Islands, the rest of mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, parts of Abra, Kalinga, eastern Mountain Province, eastern Ifugao, and Ilocos Norte, signaling strong winds with minimal to minor impacts.
Residents of Baguio City and the greater Luzon area are urged to remain vigilant, as the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, influenced by the typhoon’s periphery, will bring significant weather changes. Strong to gale-force gusts are expected across most of Luzon today, July 10, and tomorrow, July 11, particularly in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds. This condition will persist through Sunday, July 12, affecting most of Luzon, including Baguio, which is known for its elevation and exposure to such wind patterns.
Furthermore, the public is advised to refer to PAGASA’s latest Weather Advisory for comprehensive details on the heavy rainfall outlook attributed to Typhoon Inday and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon. Potential impacts could include landslides and flash floods, especially in vulnerable areas.
Authorities urge everyone to stay updated with the latest bulletins from PAGASA, prepare necessary precautions, and follow local government advisories to ensure safety during this weather disturbance. The next tropical cyclone bulletin is expected at 5:00 PM today.
