Several roads leading to Baguio City remain affected by rockfalls, road slips, and continuing rainfall as of August 29, 2026. Marcos Highway is limited to one-lane traffic at a section in Tuba, while Kennon Road remains temporarily closed to non-residents, according to the latest DPWH-Cordillera advisories.
The Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR) released updated road and travel conditions covering Baguio-bound routes and other national roads and bridges across the Cordillera.
Those who need to be on the road are advised to take note of restrictions, use designated alternate routes when available, and continue monitoring official advisories as conditions may change.
Baguio-Bound Road Conditions
Passable Roads
The following routes remain passable:
- Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Road
- Baguio-Bauang Road, also known as Naguilian Road
Marcos Highway: One Lane Passable
Marcos Highway is one-lane passable at Poblacion in Tuba, Benguet due to a rockfall.
Motorists passing through the affected section are advised to exercise caution and follow instructions from traffic personnel.
Halsema Highway: One Lane Passable
The Baguio-Bontoc Road, also known as Halsema Highway, is one-lane passable at Caliking in Atok, Benguet due to a road slip.
Kennon Road Temporarily Closed to Non-Residents
Kennon Road remains temporarily closed to non-residents until further notice due to continuous heavy rainfall.
According to DPWH-CAR, persistent rainy weather may result in slope failures, rockfalls, and landslides, making travel along the road hazardous.
Non-resident motorists are advised to use the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road, subject to prevailing road conditions.
Motorists are also advised to follow instructions from traffic enforcers and emergency personnel and monitor official advisories for updates on the reopening of Kennon Road.
Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road
Beckel, La Trinidad: Not Passable
The Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road remains not passable at Beckel in La Trinidad due to a road slip.
The section has been closed since June 28, 2026.
Alternate routes are:
- Marlboro-Beckel Road
- Labey-Lacamen Road
Bobok-Bisal, Bokod: One Lane Passable
A section of the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road at Barangay Bobok-Bisal in Bokod is one-lane passable due to rockfall and soil erosion.
Other National Roads and Bridges
Apayao
Several roads and bridges remain passable but with limitations.
Light Vehicles Only
The following sections have limited access for light vehicles:
- Bunot Bridge 2, Barangay Tanglagan, Calanasan due to a damaged abutment slope
- Ayayao Bridge, Barangay Eva, Calanasan due to a scoured bridge abutment footing
- Sugoc Bridge, Barangay Ninoy, Calanasan due to a scoured approach slab
- Pudtol Bridge, Barangay Emilia, Pudtol
- K0646+162.5 to K0646+247, Barangay Upper Maton, Pudtol
One Lane Passable Due to Road Slips
Intermittent one-lane sections are reported in:
- Barangays Parina, Tanglagan, and Eva in Calanasan
- Barangays Sta. Elena, Eva, and Naguilian in Calanasan
- Barangays Namaltugan and Butao in Calanasan
- Barangays Aurora and Lower Maton in Pudtol
- Barangays Bagutong, Anninipan, and Malayugan in Flora
Benguet
Baguio-Itogon Road: Not Passable
The Baguio-Itogon Road remains not passable at Sitio Goldfield, Barangay Poblacion, Itogon.
Alternate route: Ucab-Midas Road
Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road: Not Passable
The Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road is not passable at Barangay Duacan in Kabayan, Benguet.
No alternate route was indicated in the advisory.
Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road: Open-Close Traffic
The Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road at Bangho, Daclan, Benguet remains one-lane passable under an open-close traffic scheme.
Vehicles are allowed to pass through the affected section one at a time.
The temporary passage schedule is from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM only, except during emergency cases.
The road will automatically be closed during continuous heavy rainfall or whenever conditions become unsafe for passage.
For light vehicles, the alternate route is:
- Suyoc-Baayan-Posos Provincial Road
Pico-Lamtang Road
Pico Bridge #2 remains one-lane passable due to cracks on the girders.
Ifugao
Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road
A section at Hapao, Poblacion, Hungduan is one-lane passable due to a road slip.
Alternate route: Kiangan-Tinoc-Buguias Road
Kiangan-Tinoc-Buguias Road
Sections at Binablayan, Ap-apid, Impogong, and Eheb in Tinoc are one-lane passable due to road slips.
Kalinga
Mountain Province Boundary-Calanan-Abbut Road
Makilo Bailey Bridge in Bugnay, Tinglayan is limited to light vehicles only.
The bridge has a 5-ton load limit, and long-bodied vehicles are not allowed.
Manuel S. Agyao Boulevard
Aliog Bridge in Nambaran, Tabuk City is limited to vehicles weighing 5 tons or less and has a vertical clearance of 3 meters.
Heavy vehicles may use:
- Bulo National Road via Callagdao-Bulo-Agbannawag
Mountain Province
Baguio-Bontoc Road: Open-Close at Sitio Tiktik
An open-close traffic situation remains in effect at Sitio Tiktik, Barangay Bontoc Ili, Bontoc due to an unstable slope condition.
Mountain Province-Ilocos Sur via Tue Road
A section at Balaoa, Tadian is one-lane passable due to soil collapse.
Alternate route: Mountain Province-Ilocos Sur Road via Kayan Road
Mountain Province-Tabuk-Enrile Road
A section at Sitio Agadchang, Betwagan, Sadanga is one-lane passable due to slope collapse.
Other Baguio-Bontoc Road Sections
The following sections are also one-lane passable due to slope collapse:
- Sitio Tabbak, Sabangan
- Barangay Bontoc Ili, Bontoc
Hazards May Remain
DPWH-CAR reminded motorists that hazards may remain even along roads that are still open to traffic.
Those who need to travel are advised to slow down, obey road signs and instructions from authorities, and remain alert when approaching affected sections.
With continuing rainfall, road conditions may change rapidly.
