2025 Senatorial and Party-List Elections: What You Need to Know

The May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections will not only determine our next city and municipal leaders, but will also decide who will represent us in the Senate and in Congress through Party-List groups.

To help you make informed choices, here’s a simple guide to what these positions are, why they matter, and how to view the official candidates as certified by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). This guide can be especially helpful for first-time voters who want to better understand the process and make confident choices at the polls.

What Do Senators and Party-List Representatives Do?

Senators

Senators are national lawmakers. They make laws that affect the entire country, not just a single province or town. They also review the national budget, investigate government issues, and help decide on treaties and important national decisions.

You can vote for up to 12 senators.

Party-List Representatives

Party-lists represent the marginalized and underrepresented sectors of society like laborers, farmers, senior citizens, teachers, persons with disabilities, and others. These groups do not campaign for a person, but for their advocacy. If their group gets enough votes, they will be allowed to have 1 to 3 seats in Congress.

You can vote for only one party-list.
