13M Moderna Vaccine Doses to Arrive in PH in Mid-2021

Biotechnology company Moderna, Inc. announced on Saturday, March 6, 2021, its supply agreement with the Philippines for thirteen (13) million doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine. Under the terms of the said agreement, the deliveries of vaccine doses would start in mid-2021.

A separate agreement with the Philippine Government and the private sector is also anticipated. It was revealed that the Philippine government and private sector are also working out a deal for the supply of an additional seven (7) million vaccine doses.

“We thank the Government and the private sector for their collaboration to bring the COVID-19 Vaccine Moderna to the Philippines. We appreciate the confidence in Moderna, and our mRNA platform demonstrated by the Government of the Philippines. ”

– Stéphane Bancel, Chief Executive Officer of Moderna

According to Moderna, they will work with regulators to pursue necessary approvals prior to the distribution of their COVID-19 vaccine. This is since, as stated in their press release, “The COVID-19 Vaccine Moderna is not currently approved for use in the Philippines.”

Furthermore, on Sunday, March 7, 2021, the Philippine News Agency (PNA), a newswire service of the Philippine government, reported that National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. also made mention that they are finalizing two (2) agreements with Moderna.

“Kasi dalawa po ang agreement natin with Moderna. ‘Yung bilateral agreement na 13 million at saka yung 7 million for the tripartite or multilateral agreement,” Galvez explained.
