Wearing of faceshields now voluntary in areas under alert levels 1,2 and 3


President Rodrigo Duterte has recently approved the IATF recommendation on IATF Resolution No. 148-D(s.2021). This resolution particularly deals with the recommendation on the new protocols regarding the wearing of face shields.

In the new protocols or guidelines in wearing face shields, it was approved that the use of face shields shall depend on the current alert level status of a certain place, province, city, or community. According to the memorandum of the executive secretary released by Malacañang by the authority of the President, the new protocols on the use of face shields shall be implemented effective immediately.

Guidelines in the Use of Face Shields.

1. For areas under alert level 5 and granular lockdowns, the use of face shields in community settings shall be mandatory.

2. For areas under alert level 4, local government units (LGUs) and private establishments are given the discretion to mandate the use of face shields.

3. For areas under alert levels 3, 2, and 1, the use of face shields shall be voluntary.

Guidelines for areas not yet implementing the Nationwide Alert Level System

For areas that are to still implement the Alert Level System pursuant to Executive Order 151 (s.2021), the LGUs have the discretion to mandate the use of face shields in areas covered by the Omnibus Guidelines on the implementation of Community Quarantine in the Philippines, as amended. The wearing of face shields in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine and those under granular lockdowns shall be mandatory.
